Biological Clock
Work was presented in Goerlitz performance art festival Streifen 2025
My performance is the result of my reflections on the phrase ‘Are we still there?’ When I started to analyze it, I thought primarily about relation and the people I spend time with.
I allowed myself to move away from a direct illustration of the issue of time and speed. My work consisted of extracting very free associations, creating a grid of actions/images, based on my intuition, and cultural background. In this process, many different images, more or less relevant, appeared in my head. Finally, I got the image of liquid pouring through a tube and rubber gloves that look a bit like hands and a bit like cow udders, and this image couldn’t get out of my head. I gave myself time to check what would come out of playing with the concept. The result was a complex scene referring to various symbols, which the performance participant could interpret according to their own key.
I decided to perform in a tight, sexy dress in a pale blue colour – the color of innocence. The liquid flowing through the tube was the wine, which visually resembles blood and can be associated with the celebration of life on the one hand, and the idea of sacrifice on the other. The gloves are simultaneously an attribute of a cleaning lady, and a doctor or nurse, and when filled with wine, they become a kind of autonomous hand, perhaps female, perhaps male. Placed on my dress for the moment, they become cow udders. The final part of the performance consisted of feeding the audience wine and singing a song I made up especially for this occasion, Come, come and drink red wine with me, come, come and drink, spend time with me, come, come and drink, tell me your dream, come, come and drink my magic milk.
The title Biological Clock appeared at the end of my reflections. It refers to female physiology related to cycles.
