Body Art Bodyart / performance in collaboration with z Nati Krawtz
The performance was realized by the artistic and athletic duo (Maria Bitka and Nati Krawtz) during the opening of the exhibition „Evidence of (non)presence”, held on July 4, 2024, at the Geppart gallery in Wroclaw. The artists prepared a simple set of body art exercises in a repetitive sequence, which the performers presented accompanied by audio instruction.
Body art is a direction in art, in which the material and means of expression is the artist’s body. Bodyart is also a functional training combining Pilates, yoga, and fitness elements. It is immediately clear that sports and art are soul mates that always stick together. It’s hard to deny the statement that the most important problem of sports is aesthetics. On the other hand, sports in visual art have lived to see many representations – starting with prehistoric images of javelin throwers, through ancient discus players, and ending with works by contemporary artists. In turn, to do art and sports requires the same thing: training, form, dedication. What is most important in these two (wrongly separated) fields is the beauty of body and spirit – kalokagathos.
